Threat Assessment/Behavioral Intervention

Threat Assessment/Behavioral Intervention Track will be an intensive four-day comprehensive track that will examine all aspects of threat assessment/behavioral intervention teams. The track is appropriate for chairs, members, case managers, or anyone with oversight of a team. Individuals with an interest in this area would also benefit from attending. A case study will be utilized through the week to provide a practical application during this learning experience.Topics will include:

  • Team infrastructure (members, reporting lines, responsibilites)
  • Process development and implementation
  • Assessing threat
  • Managing students who are not threats but display concerning or potentially disruptive behavior
  • Managing faculty and staff regarding expectations, over-reactions and under-reactions
  • Developing mitigation plans
  • Understanding how identity impacts outreach and interventions
  • Managing institutional politics
  • Collaborating with stakeholders
  • Collaborating with external stakeholders including other colleges and law enforcement
  • Record-keeping
  • Managing and debriefing the “crisis”
  • Media considerations
  • Opportunities and challenges
  • Vicarious trauma
