Abstract

Supervision is a very complex and nuanced skill as a leader within higher education. The Supervision mini-track is developed to assist with providing guidance and support for new and seasoned leaders who want to establish, build, and hone on these often overlooked skills. While many may believe that supervision is solely hierarchical, participants in this mini-track will explore the multi-faceted and nuanced aspects that supervision entails in the ever-changing climate of higher education. This mini-track will afford participants the opportunity to reflect upon, learn about, and prepare pathways that will enable them to continue to be the best leaders for their students and their teams.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this Mini Track participants will:

  • Understand the historical aspects of supervision and leadership within higher education
  • Reflect on their own supervision style and skills
  • Articulate how their supervision style and skills is connected to their identity
  • Understand how their supervision has an impact on building relationships and leading others, regardless of their positionality
