Abstract
Since November of 2022, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has infiltrated many aspects of our lives. Our professional role as student conduct practitioners is no exception. This track, led by two practitioners who have presented frequently on the topic will explore AI literacy, ethical uses of GenAI, the changing legal and regulatory status and anticipated changes to GenAI. There will be some discussion of AI use in academic dishonesty, but we will boldly go where no mini-track has (maybe) gone to discuss GenAI use in non-academic concerns, GenAI applications in our daily work on campus, and using GenAI for monetary gain, impacting dispute resolution (i.e. roommate issues) or social media influencing.
At the conclusion of the mini-track participants will have a greater understanding of the potential and perils of GenAI. They will gain a better understanding of how to utilize GenAI with more efficiency, efficacy, and environmental responsibility. Given the rapidly changing space in which GenAI exists, participants will also be given as current information as possible to better their work as student affairs professionals.
This mini-track will continue and expand on concepts covered in Annual conference pre-cons in 2025 and 2026 and Student Conduct 201 presented in Spring 2026.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this Mini Track participants will:
- Participants will have a greater understanding of the benefits and perils of the artificial intelligence in student conduct work and will be able to articulate those aspects with their campus community.
- Participants will have greater confidence in leveraging generative AI in all aspects of their work.
- Participants will be more knowledgeable on learning the legal landscape of generative AI based on their institution type and geographic location.
