The Sexual Misconduct track is designed for practitioners who wish to develop knowledge and skills related to administering sex and gender non-discrimination policies, practices, and complaint resolution. This includes a review of regulatory requirements such as those found in Title IX* and the Violence Against Women Act pertaining to students. This year’s track will include some discussion of the Title IX* regulation and implications for policy and practice.
As a result of participating in the Sexual Misconduct track, participants will (including but not be limited to):
- Define and distinguish sexual misconduct and Title IX*
- Understand the various resolution models allowed under revised Title IX regulation*
- Understand trauma and its applicability to sexual misconduct reporting and process participation
- Learn about administering emergency and interim supportive measures
- Consider various approaches to resolution of reported misconduct, including formal and informal resolutions
- Understand essentials to investigation, evaluating evidence, and report writing to include credibility assessments and rationale writing
- Learn approaches to live hearings, including cross-examinations and relevance determinations
- Discuss the practice of self-care for practitioners as related to secondary and vicarious trauma
- Understand the required appeal bases, common appeals concerns, and management of appeals
- Review training requirements for employees implementing Title IX* procedures
*All content relating to the Title IX will be impacted by the implementation of revisions to the regulation.
